Pre-war Paris, read for a contemporary master suite.
The owners had spent years in Paris and wanted a piece of it in their master bedroom. Not a pastiche — a contemporary, neoclassical interior that doubles as a private sitting room and reads quietly after dark.
Boiserie panels, drawn for light.
Full-height boiserie covers the long walls only, painted in three barely-different shades of warm white so the panels read by light, not by line. The remaining walls are limewashed in a soft espresso — the bed reads as sculpture against them.
Carrara fireplace, parquet de Versailles in smoked oak.
A Carrara marble fireplace anchors the seating area and reflects the floor — parquet de Versailles laid in 600 mm panels of smoked French oak.
A timeless interior — private, not precious.
Linen curtains, a tufted bone-coloured headboard, claret pillows. The room can be lit for two or for twelve. It works at both.
